About

The project On Sight / Site was conceived as an immediate reaction to the Covid-19 crisis, when a sudden lack of visibility and income for artists posed a great challenge. Shows, art fairs and performances were cancelled or postponed. But it also aspired to add voices to a wider discourse surrounding the pandemic, not only highlighting the financial hardship but all other areas where the pandemic has shone a bright light: thinking about social and racial inequalities, precarity of workers’ rights, health conditions, co-habitations in ecosystems and more.

12 artists from all linguistic regions of Switzerland have created a poster in response to the current situation, to be displayed in public spaces, either making specific reference to issues related to the current crisis or by presenting works created during lockdown.

The project encourages exchange between artists all over Switzerland, by nurturing a dialogue beyond the crisis. It creates a neural and visible network between geographies, ecologies and languages.

The posters will be displayed at various locations in Switzerland in public spaces from 6 - 19 July 2020.

The project was initiated by artists Nicole Bachmann and Monica Ursina Jäger, both based in Zurich and London. They regularly curate and organize art projects and discursive formats alongside their artistic practice.

With generous support from Pro Helvetia Swiss Cultural Funds and Stadt Zürich Kultur.
